My latest documentary film is now live, and I'm very excited to share it with you. 'Bikepacking the Gran Canaria Grande' follows me and a friend, Egon Klett, as we complete the first full ride of my upcoming bikepacking route around Gran Canaria. This film was a lot of fun to make, and I'm very happy with how it came out, so I hope you like it.
I won't say too much here about the film, as I feel it speaks for itself, so have a watch and let me know what you think! Filmmaking is still a relatively new experience for me; this is only the second proper documentary I've put together and I still have a lot to learn, so any constructive feedback is much appreciated, especially if there are things which you think could be better anything that you didn't like, or suggestions for additional elements to include. I've never had any formal training in videography or filmmaking, so I'm learning as I go. Fortunately, the process does seem to be getting easier; the process of putting together this film was vastly smoother and faster than for my last film covering the Kenya Bike Odyssey, and I also enjoyed it far more, partly for that reason. Video editing is incredibly time-consuming, but it's reassuring to find that it does nevertheless get much easier with experience!
Bikepacking.com have featured the film, as well as a bit more background on how the route came together, you can see their article HERE.
The obvious main upgrade I made with this film compared to the KBO was that this time, I had the benefit of a drone, and I really feel that this is a game-changer when it comes to videography, particularly in my case where so much focus is put onto the landscapes. It's impossible to fully capture the scale and majesty of a landscape when shooting from the ground, but the drone makes this very easy. It was a fun learning experience figuring out how to best utilise the drone, and I love how the shots have turned out. Video is going to be a major focus of mine in 2023, with several more videos planned, so I'm excited to see how I'm able to incorporate the drone into my process!
That's it from me, enjoy the film!
