Kayaking the Darien Gap

I've spent 10 years travelling the world, but nothing prepared me for the challenge of kayaking the coast of the Darien Gap. This is one of the most dangerous and lawless regions on Earth—a dense, roadless jungle that separates Central and South America. While most people know it as the missing link in the Pan-American Highway, I decided to attempt a crossing by water, navigating the rugged coastline from Panama into Colombia.

Joined by my sister Anna and my mate Ben, the journey took us through the stunning but isolated San Blas islands (Guna Yala), where the Caribbean weather eventually turned against me. I’m used to the slow pace of bikepacking on remote dirt roads, but being out on the open ocean in a kayak was a different level of vulnerability. Between the relentless winds, the storms, the physical exhaustion, and the sheer isolation of the open ocean, this trip almost broke me.

In this film, I share the full story of the 250 km journey—the launch refusals, the incredible people I met along the coast, and the reality of surviving the coast of the world's most notorious jungle.
